April Fools…?

Happy 1st of April!

For those of you in Australia and NZ, we wish you a happy 1st of April! For the rest of the world, happy last day of March!

We have some exciting stuff planned for this “holiday” and wanted to give you a heads up to what you can expect.

There will be a one day set. This set will contain 3 items which will be dropped at 3 different times throughout the day. The timing for this set will be based on UTC time, so any time between 00:01 and 23:59 UTC is fair game. We hope you enjoy the silliness of this strange day, and enjoy the festivities.

Since the 1st of April is known for pranks, we hope that you’re the type of person who laughs at getting hit with a pie… not that we’d ever do something like that. 😉

Until tomorrow…

The Beginning…

It Is Time!

The time has finally come! Your clan’s first assignment is about to begin. As we begin this tale, I wanted to give a post reassuring you all that this is planned to be a fun set, with no points for the number range of items. We have some very exciting twists and turns planned for you, in both storyline and item releases. If you don’t want to participate in the fun clan activities, you are welcome to collect the items like they normally come out, but it will be much more fun to participate with your clan members.

Now that that’s been said, lets get this story started. Here are the guidelines for the first item.

  • Due before 5pm UTC tomorrow, the 29th.
  • If your normal representative is unable to participate before the above time, please have someone else submit the final idea.
  • Submissions will be made through either email or the submission form.
  • If no clan is close to the beginning of the story, then that point will be lost and it will result in a default storyline description. If a team doesn’t get a submission in by the time stamp, then they forfeit the chance at getting that point.

Any questions? Please send an email to support.

Tell Us A Tale

Tell us a Tale

Happy Friday to you! I hope that everyone is excited about the new set, Tell us a Tale. We want you to have as much time to get your clans together as possible, so no need to start freaking out.

Before this weekend begins, I wanted to give you a quick overview of the set expectations, and how this competition will be run:

Collaborative Storytelling

As was mentioned previously, this is a storytelling adventure for you and your clan. You can take it as seriously or lighthearted as you’d like, but it’s usually more fun to play nicely together.

Representatives

For this set, you will appoint at least one person to be a representative. The representative’s job is to pass along the next portion of the story to me. If you want to do multiple representatives to help with time zone differences, that is completely understandable. However, if two representatives from the same clan give me a story, the first one submitted will be accepted. No exceptions. The whole clan puts together the story, but the representative delivers the message to me.

Due date for your Representative(s) is Sunday, March 20th (UTC).

Clan Points

Storytelling: Points will be awarded for creativity and accuracy. The storyboard for this set has already been created, with the artwork already done (very well done, if I may say so). The clan with the closest story to what actually happened, gets the points. If no one gets it right, it will fall back to the default story.

Other Points: There may be some fun ways to earn points, which will be explained at a later date, but there will be NO points given for items based on number: SD, DD, TD, QD, 5D, etc. No need to lose friendships over a fun set. Hoard this set like you normally would, but there’s no need to go overboard.

Set Timing

We are currently waiting on some things to fall into place before we begin this set, so you still have some time to theorize. When we begin to release items, and the storytelling begins, you will have to think two steps ahead, as the next card released may be part of a mix. You will have time to formulate the next part of the story and submit it, and if there are any important time restraints, I will let you know prior. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Godspeed and good luck!

Magical Creatures

The Coming Clans

Hello everyone!

I’m sure your houses are swarming with crazy ideas as to what this new set is going to look like. To get the forums swarming a little more, we want you to discuss something: New (temporary) Clan names.

In the days of old, your family clan was how you were seen to others. It was the root of who you were and what you did. The Enchanted Hat has made a dangerous journey back in time to bring back the original heritage on which your houses were founded. Surprisingly, none of our houses were based on the creatures we thought they were.

I am now pleased to present the new House Clans:

  • Yetis of Snugglepuff
  • Phoenixes of Jabbaclaw
  • Unicorns of Slithering
  • Dragons of Colbourndor

Since this set will be a little different from the last big competition, my suggestion is to appoint a representative. Make sure this player is going to be active, as they will come into play later on in this competition. BeeKeepers are great default choices. If your clan needs assistance choosing the worthy one, the Enchanted Hat will be happy to help.

The Map

To give you a little teaser, I have designed a map for this new land of adventure. What is this map going to be used for, you may ask? That information will be disclosed at a later date. For the time being, if you want to see what it looks like, or use it as your phone’s wallpaper, you can find it in our WallaPapers DropBox.

Godspeed and good luck!

Events Category!

The time has come, MrV said, to speak of many things:
Of store drops, and mixes, and foraging,
Of Set cards and Uniques.
And why the Pool is boiling hot
And whether ‘Squatch has wings.

Hey guys! Thanks for humoring me over the weekend! A lot happened that we want to touch on:

Events Category!

That’s right! We are adding a fun new category to the game: Events!

This new category will host a few different types of subcategories, including WallaBee hosted events and Player/Community supported events. What color is this adding, you may ask? Brown!

For those players that saw the MM5 unique rear its head on Saturday, you may have a few questions. Good news! We have some answers.

Question: Was the unique a WallaBee or Player Unique?

Answer: Player. The artwork was commissioned by a group of our players who were hosting the MM5 event. It was given out through a beta test of the new Event category locations. Even if that wasn’t the case, it acts no differently than a number of uniques that are already in existence.

Question: I saw users able to forage multiple of the unique… what gives?

Answer: You are correct. Multiple were able to be foraged, which is why the location was taken away very quickly. It was not the original plan. There was only supposed be one per player. The event was a great opportunity to test the mechanics, as we now know there are a few things that need to be worked out before it becomes a normal part of the game.

Question: What conditions need to be met for an official WB/Player event?

Answer:

  • WallaBee Hosted: At least one WBHQ staff member will be at the location and set up the meet-up.or
  • Player Hosted: A staff member does not have to be present, but there must be at least 5 players in attendance. Other terms and conditions will be added when these go live.

Question: What do I receive at a WB/Player event?

Answer: This answer may change as the project grows and adapts, but really anything is possible. In the case of our beta test with MM5, there was a unique that was given out at the event, through the event location. We aren’t sure if there will be a new unique for each meet-up, but there may be something else to keep you busy. Talk has been made about making a new category of uniques for events, so there is less confusion as to whether the item is Player or WallaBee.Have a question that wasn’t answered here? Please email support.

New Set?

If you had the opportunity to catch the periscope broadcast on Saturday, you got a head start on knowing that there is a 20 card set coming soon.

Get ready for a Collaborative Storytelling adventure! Your houses will be heavily involved for this set. And no, before you ask, it’s not Specky 2.

Need to access the house forums for the first time? Mix the Transfiguration Professor with the Enchanted Hat.

When will this set come out? How will the storytelling occur? Is the legend of RedCarRobbie true? Only time can tell… but this set will be one for the history books.

Getting Started

Did you just download WallaBee? Confused about how to get started? Need help finishing your sets?

Look No further!

This game is all about collecting. That might mean finishing all of your sets, hoarding as many Buckets as you can, or saving your favorite number from destruction. At the end of the day, it’s up to you!

There are a few ways to get items for your collection. This section will tell you all about the basics.

Foraging

Foraging is the simplest way to get items. You visit the Places tab within the app, choose a nearby “forageable” spot and tap the forage button. Each place has a range of several hundred meters, so you may need to move around in the real world to enable foraging at certain places (Still no places nearby? You can add new ones as long as they fall within WallaBee’s place guidelines).

You’ll be rewarded with either an item, Honeycombs (HC – WallaBee’s in-app currency) or nothing each time you forage. The items you can receive are determined by the type of place you’re foraging. Places are broken up into eight main categories (grouped by the color of the ring surrounding the place icon) and each item is assigned to one or more of those categories and can only be foraged at those locations.

Foraging at the same place multiple times is allowed, but beware that your odds of finding anything drop the more times you forage in a row. Locations are broken up into different colors, such as Yellow for Food, Red for Travel, and Black for Sports.

Store/Market

The store is always rotating with different items flying onto, and off, the shelf. There are five stores with specialized themes, which may help you find what you’re looking for. The Market is where players can sell their items, if you are willing to pay a higher HC cost to get your item NOW.

Mixing

You may find that particular items are only accessible if you mix two items together. If you have items that go together, your “mix” light will appear in the top right-hand side of the app. Experimenting is key.

Saving Items

Once you have an item you want to add to your set collection, simply save it! To save any item to your set, simply select an item, tap the right-hand corner Share button, and select “Save to Set.” This is where you can display your collected items, and make sure that they stay safe.

Honeycombs

As the in-app currency of WallaBee, Honeycombs (HC) are in high demand. You can purchase them, of course, but the game is designed to be playable without having to pay, so there are several ways to earn them:

  • Selling Items: (described above)
  • Forage: each time you forage you could receive HC.
  • Complete Sets: you’ll receive a small bonus each time you complete a set.
  • Win Contests: on occasion, staff or other players may host giveaways/competitions in the forums/social media.

Dropping/Picking Up Items

Players can drop items at any of the places in the game. The most common reason is to store items you don’t need right now, but might need later on (e.g., you don’t have both items of a mix). Beware, though, that dropped items are fair game to be picked up by any other player. The only way to protect dropped items is to lock it beforehand. To lock an item, select an item from your pouch, tap the “share” icon on the top right-hand side, and select lock. This will protect dropped items from being picked up by others.

To drop an item, tap on a “Forageable” place nearby and then the number of items at the top. Tap the “Drop an item” button and you’ll be able to choose an item from your pouch to drop. Conversely, to pick up an item, tap it in the list of items at a place. You can choose to simply pick it up or “swap” it with an item from your pouch, which trades the dropped item for yours.

Trading

Oftentimes you’ll find opportunities to trade with other players to obtain items that are beneficial to each of you. Trading items is simple; tap the Action button on the item you wish to trade, tap “Trade item,” choose the player you want to trade with and the item you wish to trade for. You can also choose to add or request HC alongside the item.

Terms like SD, DD, and TD refer to Single Digit, Double Digit, and Triple Digit.

It’s generally good etiquette to discuss trades through messages before sending a trade request out of the blue. The forums within WallaBee contain “The Trading Post” section that can help you connect with other players with whom you can trade.

Recycling

So, what is Recycling? You might have seen this option when you tap on an item in your pouch and then tap on the action icon. The confirmation dialog is a bit scary, but really all it’s warning you of is that if you Recycle, that specific item won’t likely end up close to you. When you hit Recycle, the item is randomly placed somewhere in the world. Could be anywhere, but Sweden and Thailand are common end points. So, give it a shot! Try it first with a 5D (five digit numbered item) if you are nervous.

You can also find where your item went if you are curious. Visit the website http://itembrowser.com/ I’ll be recycling Goldfish 10094. You can tap on the Sets button and scroll down to find the Pet Store Pals set, but the easiest way is to tap on the Orange magnifying glass icon and enter Goldfish. Tap on the Goldfish item, and then enter “10094” in the “Search for a Number” box, then tap the Find button. Tap the place icon to see more details, then tap the place icon again to see the map. You can pinch in to zoom out and we see that, sure enough, my item ended up in Bangkok (If you did everything right, you should have ended up here).

Have Other Questions?

WallaBee’s community is full of helpful people. You can ask general questions to our players in WallaBee Chat. To find a Staff Member or BeeKeeper (community moderator) tap Profile->Friends->Find Friends->Add WallaBee Staff or Add BeeKeepers.

Linode, KickStarter, Duplicates… Oh, my.

Hello everyone!

We have a quick update for you all!

Linode

Due to their continued connection issues, we have begun looking to take our business elsewhere. With this being said, we will be moving everything to a new service provider, who should take way better care of us.

This migration will be happening on Tuesday, January 19th. While this is taking place, you may experience sporadic moments of downtime. Our goal is for 0% downtime, but we understand that sometimes things happen. We are hoping for a quick and speedy transition to the new host and really do appreciate your patience as we deal with all the frustrating things behind the scenes.

KickStarter Card/Pouch Space

We will be distributing the Unique Card within the next 24 hours, in the order you pledged. It doesn’t matter whether you pledged $5 or $1,000, the first person that hit the pledge button will get #1 and so on. We have the original records of the order, so don’t worry if your pledge moved with the addition of the Stretch Goals. Pouch space will also be added during the next few days.

Duplicate Items

We are almost there! I have been working on this for a while now, and I’m pleased to announce that we have under 125 left! The whole situation is terrible, and I apologize for any anxiety this has caused, but I have been working with everyone personally to make sure it goes as smooth as it can.

Skip and Maroo have helped me keep the spreadsheet up to date (thank you!). SpreadSheet Any and all help is greatly appreciated. If you have any of these items, please send me a PM or email: Robbie@wallab.ee

Again, you guys are all awesome, and we are so close to the end of this painful race.

KickStarter Emails!

KickStarter Surveys!

Kickstarter surveys have been sent to 80% of those who pledged. The final remaining group received a Kickstarter message concerning the hat they are expecting. Everything is finally moving ahead! *insert kermit gif*

Please fill out your survey ASAP so we can fill the orders. We will pass out the Kickstarter unique in the order of your pledge. Distribution will begin next week. For those who pledged $10 or more your +10 pouch size will also occur next week.

For those who added additional funds to your pledge level, in order to add a shirt, hat, etc. to your order, please forward your KickStarter email to support@wallab.ee and include the details of what else you ordered. Since KickStarter only recognizes the level you pledge for, we want to make sure you get what you paid for. We will work with you through email to make sure that happens..

Remember, anyone who pledged more than $5 will receive the in game unique card. Anyone $10 or more receives the card and +10 pouch space.

Did you miss the KickStarter deadline?

Don’t worry! If you want to obtain the unique or one of the other items, stay tuned! Once we have everything passed out for the original pledges, we will set up a way for you to show your support.

Thanks again to everyone for your patience!

There Can Only Bee One

Hey everyone, today we want to bring up the issue of duplicate items.

Duplicate Items

Before you start blaming us for them, duplicates have been around since The Final Frontier. For example, look at UFO 283. One was mixed to make Alien 101 and the other is saved to bawlingchicken’s set.

Now that I have your attention, we really want to purge the game of these copy-cats once-and-for-all. How do we do that? With your help.

The Problem

As long as duplicates are alive, the game thinks that they are okay to generate. Remember when players were getting #0? Same concept.

I personally tried obtaining duplicates during newer item releases, but found myself running out of lower items to trade away. Once I obtained them, I would delete them from the database, but it left a null in the game. As you can imagine, this was not something we want, as it can cause your app to crash.

The Solution

I am pleased to present a new Unique item to the game: “There Can Only Bee One.”

This item will be used to replace duplicates in two ways:

  • If it was used in a mix (ie. Alien 101).
  • To help compensate you when we ask for it.

How will the numbers be distributed?

I will be working on a spreadsheet, starting tomorrow, from the oldest duplicate to the most recent. For now, the #1 will be held to the side, for a later date. If you want to beat some of the lower numbers to the chopping block, and have a duplicate within your set/pouch/stash/etc… Please Email me. I will be checking email before starting this purge, so this gives you about 15 hours to help us find the duplicates.

Obviously, there will be a few other questions about this, so please do not hesitate to ask.

WallaBee Tools

Hello again, we want to talk with you today about paid vs. free WallaBee tools.

Third-Party Developers

Back in October, we made an announcement that we wanted to be in contact with API developers, but didn’t go into much detail. Here is a quick sneak-peak at some hard decisions that need to happen.

Paid vs. Free Tools

We have many users in our community that benefit the gameplay of our app with tools that they create. These are available in the App Store, as well as through your web browser. Many of these tools are free to use, but some require one-time fees, whether it is to purchase the app or unlock features within. As we move forward with the growth of the game, we have requested that API developers who charge for their tools to contact us. Some of these developers have decided to not continue working with us as we grow. In our efforts to be more transparent with you, we feel it is important to let you know that there is a chance that some paid apps will become unusable by January 15th.

Free apps/websites will continue to remain up and operational for the foreseeable future.

We thank you for your continued support as we advance on developing the game and community.
