The Recycling Center

Hello Collectors!

We’re adding a new mechanic into WallaBee’s backend that will help with performance while bigger things are worked on. We’re calling this mechanic “The Recycling Center,” because that’s pretty much what it is. Let’s get into the details.

Recycling

You will now have a chance to send your recycled item to The Recycling Center, where it can be reused for other things in WallaBee. Don’t worry, you can still recycle items to faraway places, but now there’s a chance you’re not littering. 😉

Unique Items will not go to The Recycling Center unless placed there by Staff.

Foraging/Purchasing

All items found in the game release in numerical order, with the exception of things found from the Mixerpool, where you can find previously created items. The Recycling Center is very similar to the Mixerpool, giving items that were previously created, but without the need for Mixers. How do you access The Recycling Center (TRC)? We’re glad you asked.

Let’s say there are 10 older Bearded Lady items in TRC. When a player purchases a Bearded Lady or foraging one, instead of making the next-in-line number, the game will check to see if there is a Bearded Lady in TRC first. If there is, you’ll receive one from TRC instead of the newest number. The number of Bearded Lady items in TRC is now at 9. Once all 9 of those items have been removed from TRC, next-in-line numbers will begin issuing again.

Item Drops will still occur like normal.

Refills

Since recycling items has a chance to add an item into TRC, how are other ways items will appear there? We’re glad you asked!

Items will also be manually added to TRC by Staff, similar to the Mixerpool, from items in Limbo. This means that there are chances to find some very low numbered items from all points in WallaBee’s history from TRC!

Gameplay Balancing

Hello Collectors,

Back when Covid-19 began, we made some adjustments to the game to help encourage the ability to play more from the safety of your home. As restrictions fluctuate between countries and smaller forms of government, we are planning on adjusting the following aspects of WallaBee back to normal. With these changes, we’re also going to make some additional updates to gameplay that we wanted to make you aware of. These changes will occur on October 8th, 17:00 UTC.

  • The doubled radius for interacting with places will return to normal.
  • Increased honeycombs found foraging when fewer places are nearby.
  • Club locations will be removed until the next competition.
  • Hive Chest contents will be changed to have a wider range of rewards.
  • Opening Hive Chests will be limited to one (1) at a time.
  • Different items will be available through foraging.
  • Midas Touch => Golden Mixer recipe will return for a limited time.

We hope to add additional changes that didn’t quite make this list before the next update comes. Standby as we continue to make sure balancing adjustments.

Saving Variants and Prestige Items Coming This Fall

Hello Collectors!

We are excited to announce that our fall update will consist of the much-requested ability to save multiple variants of a single item, along with a new game mechanic: Prestige Items. Ever since Ben (WallaBee Founder) teased the idea of variants, the community has wanted to save them alongside the other items in their set… but how should that look? WallaBee Staff has been thinking about design and architecture changes necessary for this heavily-desired feature to become reality over the past few years and have made various changes to the user interface to accommodate saving variants. These features are still being created as we speak, but we are very excited to share some information with you now, to help better prepare you for the update.

Saving Variants

Let’s use the Keyring item as an example. Pretend you have a Green-haired keyring saved to your set. After this update, you will be able to save the other four colors: Blue, Yellow, Red, and White. Trying to save the same variant color that you already have saved will prompt a Swap Item popup, similar to how it currently works. Within your set, you will see the Green-haired keyring highlighted at the Set View level, along with the other items within The Arcade set. Tapping on the Keyring will allow you to view the item like normal, but will also allow you to scroll horizontally between all of your saved variants. You will have the option to highlight a different variant in your set by scrolling to the variant you would like to highlight and selecting it with a special button. You can remove any variant from your set at any time, just like other items, allowing you to trade them away as you wish.

Not final design. For illustration only. Subject to change.

Prestige Items

Have you completed all of your sets? Are you looking for something else to do with items instead of endlessly feeding Wishing Wells? Don’t you wish you could highlight your hard work in another way? Well, now you can! Prestige Items offer a new way to play WallaBee between new item releases, without the dreaded FOMO (fear of missing out).

So what are Prestige Items, anyway? We’re glad you asked! Prestige Items are an advanced option to continue your collection past just filling up a set and lower item numbers. Prestige Items can be created from already existing items, keeping their number intact, and will add a level and rarity to them. Upon becoming a Prestige Item, it will gain a new appearance, including a Level 1 title and an Uncommon rarity. Prestige levels can be increased by gaining XP from mixing other items of the same type with the Prestige Item, up to a maximum level of 100. The required XP to level up an item varies depending on which rarity it is. There are 5 rarities: Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and (we’re keeping this a surprise).

Any set item can be changed into a Prestige Item by mixing it with an ‘enabler’ item or by spending Royal Jellies. Once an item becomes a Prestige Item, it will take on the above attributes of a Prestige Item and lose the ability to be mixed with anything else (i.e. a prestige blue egg cannot be mixed with a yellow egg to create a green egg). Prestige Items will be blocked from being sold in the market or from being recycled. This new feature will not work with any Collectibles (Exclusives, Uniques, Wallagraphics, etc.), but will work with all set items. Items made into Prestige Items will no longer have special mixes (i.e. Wishing Well, Job Lot, Perfume, Aftershave, etc.). Similarly to Prestige Items getting a visual upgrade, completed sets will showcase your efforts once all saved items are Prestige Items.

FAQ

  • I have been leveling up a Prestige #5112 Bearded Lady and just traded for a #900 Bearded Lady! Can I transfer my progress from the #5112 to the #900?
    • Yes, but it first requires changing the #900 Bearded Lady into a Prestige Item. Once it is a Prestige Item, you can mix both items together to swap Prestige Levels.
  • I don’t have any Royal Jellies. Can I still prestige an item?
    • Yes! There will be a special ‘enabler’ item released that will allow you to convert a normal item into a Prestige Item. This ‘enabler’ item will be available through multiple means, including the Item Stores.
  • Will this be another mix chain feature like “Texas Music Legends” or “Heart Series”?
    • No, this is completely new. The required number of items (XP) needed to increase a Prestige Item’s level changes depending on which rarity it is, so it will never get exponential. With over 4,000 different set items, we want this feature to be a fun, casual addition to the game, instead of very ‘grindy.’
  • You mentioned that Prestige Items will no longer have special mixes. Does this mean my Perfume can’t become a Prestige Item?
    • Your Perfume can become a Prestige Item, but it will not work as a normal Perfume anymore. Anything made into a Prestige Item loses normal mixing behaviors. I.E. A normal Wishing Well mixed with a Prestige Wishing Well will destroy the normal Wishing Well and add that XP to the Prestige Wishing Well.

SURPRISE

As if the above isn’t enough to be excited about, we would like to formally announce that David McCabe (Mizak) will be stepping into a larger role with the WallaBee team as a new staff member, starting now! David has helped on-and-off with our website since the switch over to V2 in 2016, helped test various features we’ve released as part of a test team of players, and more recently has been helping with backend improvements and bug fixes. David’s abilities with backend code and knowledge of the game are very helpful resources to our team, which we look forward to furthering in his new role as staff. Stay tuned as more WallaBee development becomes available.

Quick Bio

Mizak has been playing WallaBee since the beginning, gathering up as many lower numbered items he could, but that chapter of his playing style is coming to an end. He will no longer be participating in item releases in the typical sense moving forward, as his staff title will allow him information that is not readily available to other players. Mizak will keep his previous sets intact, continuing to trade for lower items, but will begin collecting a higher number moving forward, beginning with the Soapbox Derby set. More information on his new trading procedures can be found in his bio.

WallaBowl Results?

Hello Collectors!

We want to start by congratulating all of our teams for putting in some crazy effort toward this competition. 53,943 Strikes were destroyed, leaving only 2,659 surviving thus far! That’s a lot of dedication to create those glorious Golden Turkeys.

At the end of the two weeks, we expanded the number of item slots from 300 to 1000, but that still didn’t end up being enough for our clubs. Bravo! During the last weekend, we saw 3 teams rise to the top of the leaderboard for a 3-way tie (extra items past the 1000 limit don’t count). Part of this season’s competition rules was that we would not end it in a tie… so what are we to do but host a very special tie-breaker!

Bonus 11th Frame

Welcome to overtime… or what we like to call the 11th frame. The rules are very simple for this tie-breaker: There will be one representative bowling for your club’s fate.

Club Phoenix, Club Yeti, and Club Dragon will all send one player to represent their team. That player will be given 10 Basic Balls and 10 Ten Pins items to mix. The resulting items from those 10 mixes will produce the club’s 11th frame score. Whoever has the highest score from those 10 items left in their pouch will be crowned the winner.

To ensure fairness, there are some restrictions on who will be able to be your club’s representative.

  • BeeKeepers and staff will not be able to participate.
  • Your representative will need to remove all other bowling items from their pouch to help ensure there is no cheating.

Steps

As a club, decide who will be your representative. Create a new forum post to discuss this if needed. Once a representative has been selected, create a new topic called “Our representative is” in your Club forum and RedCarRobbie will handle it from there.

Points

  • Strike: 15 points
  • Spare: 10 points
  • Split: 8 points
  • Average Shot: 5 points
  • Gutterball: 0 points

Technical Rules

Should there be another tie, we will continue to add frames in this manner until teams get eliminated and a winning team is crowned.
The ten (10) items left in the representative’s pouch will be tallied when they submit their final scores to RedCarRobbie.
No special coding has been set up for this portion of the competition, so this is 100% based on RNG.
Special note: Average Shot and Split can be rolled in an attempt to earn a Spare, but can also result in a Gutterball. Is making that extra roll worth losing the 5 points?

Conclusion

This blog post will be updated with the names of the representatives, a link to the items given to them, and the results. Each item used in this 11th frame will have WallaBee Support as the gifting party so that there is no confusion on whether an item was valid.

May the mixing odds be in your favor. RedCarRobbie awaits

Competitions and Butterflies

Hello Collectors!

We are well on our way to a very fun Bowling Competition! If you haven’t joined a club yet, you can do so by mixing these two items (1, 2).

WARNING! The following contains spoilers for the set. If you do not wish to know, please halt now and enjoy this Bearded Lady design created in Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Bowling Competition

This is a bowling set, so there are a few items you’re likely to encounter, such as Bowling Balls, Pins, and the results of mixing these items together…  So here are some details so you and your club can plan for success.

There are three different types of bowling balls: Basic, Amateur, and Pro. Each ball is more likely to earn you a certain result. For example, a Basic Ball will more likely earn you an Average Shot more than a Strike, while a Pro Ball has a better chance to hit a Strike. However, with that higher Strike chance also comes a higher chance to roll a Gutterball.

Items in this set that will result in points for your team will either be the result of mixing or interacting with (“Roll Again”). Unlike normal bowling with a set number of frames in which to play and a score that only goes through 300, our ‘frames’ will take place over a 2-week span with the ability to earn up to 450,000 points. Each club will have access to their own special location with 300 item spots (only visible by that club) where items can be placed to earn points. Should multiple clubs reach the potential max points listed above before the competition ends, additional item spots will be added to their club. There are no ties in this competition.

The schedule will be as follows:

  • Monday, May 25th 00:00:01 UTC – Sunday, June 7th 23:59:59 UTC
  • The winning club will be announced on Monday, June 8th.

Points will be awarded as follows:

  • Earned Points
    • Spare: 50 points
    • Strike: 100 points
    • Turkey: 400 points
    • Hambone: 500 points
    • Ham Turkey Dinner: 1000 points
    • Golden Turkey: 1500 points
  • No points:
    • Normal set items (Attendant, Rental Shoes, etc.)
    • Average Shot
    • Split

To earn points, players must fill their special Club location with items. Keep some strategy in mind when dropping items at this place, as there is limited space.

A breakdown of each club’s points will be available on our website closer to the beginning of the competition. We hope you enjoy this fun game within a game, as we bowl our hearts out!

Butterflies

As the weather warms up (in the Northern Hemisphere), butterflies are fluttering around, landing in various locations. Little known fact, Robbie and his family raised (if you can say that) some butterflies and let them go recently… which was a great experience to share with loved ones. Another great experience with butterflies is to collect them, so that’s exactly what we’re going to give you very soon!

Why is this announcement happening by way of the blog, you may ask? Well, these butterflies act differently from all other items in WallaBee. These items will begin appearing at random locations around the world at launch and will continue to be found at locations afterward. Unlike buying or foraging an item, these butterflies will already be created, waiting to be picked up. While this is a fun geolocation aspect on its own, there is another twist! Similar to the way collectors display their butterflies, any saved butterflies will be ‘pinned’ to your set. You can, however, remove the butterfly from your set once saved, but it will retain it’s ‘pinned’ artwork.

You can expect to see these butterflies appearing near you very soon!

EDIT: These are now live! They will be spawning randomly every 20 minutes out into the wild!

Get collecting!
