Version 2 Update Notes

Version 2 Update

Hello everyone!

It’s finally May! That means that we will be releasing Version 2 this month. In fact, we have some great news to share with y’all today. We hope you’re sitting down!

Firstly, we are very excited to announce that Version 2 is now LIVE in the App Store! You can update the app by launching the App Store and navigating to Updates. Once the update has finished, you will have to log back into the app with your username (or email) and password. Depending on your location, you may not see the update right away. For this reason, we are reserving a drop-free time period until the end of May 1st CT. Unfortunately, the Android version will not be released today, but will be available very soon. We ran into some kinks that need to be straightened out before it goes live to new users.

If you haven’t been following with the previous forum posts, this iOS update brings a completely rewritten app – front and back. Everything from the user interface to the API has been carefully crafted for the benefit of you, our players. Since the API has been rewritten, we will be shutting down the current API Tuesday, May 2nd. This means that the current app version 1.6 will not work as of tomorrow. For uninterrupted gameplay, we recommend updating your app as soon as it is available. This will effect all third party apps, with the exception of ItemBrowser (kinda). We will be handling requests for new API keys in the near future for any developers that are interested in updating/creating third party tools. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes our players.

Secondly, we are proud to announce that WallaBee is getting hitched! We are joining forces with ItemBrowser to create a brand new tool for our website, which we’re re-branding as ItemBee. ItemBee will be live soon and will be found on our website. This new tool currently features the ability to look up sets, items, numbers, users, and more! With this marriage, you can expect to see great things coming in the near future for ItemBee.

Now, back to the part you all are excited about: Version 2.

WB2.0 Overview

This version of WallaBee will cover a multitude of updates and enhancements. Everything about the app has been rewritten for efficiently fun gameplay, which allows all of our players the ability to continue adding items to their sets the moment it is released. You won’t lose any of your items. While many features of the fabled Version 2 will not be implemented in today’s release, we have big plans for subsequent versions of the app. The best part of this new app? No more friend bug and 512 errors. The following list is not exhaustive, but explains the most crucial changes. One thing to remember: “Just because it was in the old app, doesn’t mean it will continue to the new app.”

Additions

  • Brand New App – inside and out.
  • Login On-boarding
  • Places Map View
  • Places List View Verified Banner
  • Pouch Organization – long press to move

  • Removed Friend Bug
  • Removed Hide Profile
  • Removed Hidden Items – they’re still your locked items.

Missing Content/Bugs

Give us a little bit of time with this. We’re aware of the missing bits and will be working on adding them ASAP. Here’s a list of examples. This is not an exhaustive list.

  • Certain Mixes Don’t Work – jousters, fortune/trick card, christmas cracker, etc.
  • Cannot Open Mystery Box
  • Forum Notifications
  • Push Notifications
  • In-game Locklist Unlock – currently unlocks and leaves the item at its current location.
  • Using wifi can sometimes hinder GPS location accuracy.
  • Unique Gifting Portal will be down for a short while. Please contact me directly if you need assistance.

  • Saving Variants

A Message To The Players

WOWZERS

Good thing the new app is coming with a stable foundation, huh? That last push through the Birthday Baking was a bit undercooked (groan).

As you’re all well aware, we have been working on ‘the new app’ for some time, but it’s really true. Like all good things, it takes time and patience… and more time… and a bit of know-how to get things going the correct way. When it comes to the future of WallaBee, it is bright, shiny, and a lot more stable. We continue to run into issues on the current app, as there are many problems ingrained into its very being. The new app is being written completely from the ground up. You will notice the different when you see it.

We apologize for the inconvenience of multi-item mixing that make the connection problems worse during a drop. We do not want to remove any content from gameplay to compensate the issues, but due to the app’s current limitations, we will be taking a serious step back from mixing for some time. You will still find the occational mix available, but we want you to all be happy (as mush as that’s impossible given the current situation). Thank you all for your patience dealing with errors, lag, timeouts, and the like. We have a great deal of respect for those of you who have stuck it out to this point, and you will all be rewarded..

There will be an update soon about where we’re at with the new app, when you can expect it to be available, and what content will look like. We may begin teasing this information over a period of time, instead of all at once, but you can bet your bottom dollar that we are almost there. I promise.

EDIT: If you had any items move in your pouch which ended in you mixing the wrong items, please send me an email. In extreme cases like this, with tons of errors and lag, we are willing to grant redos.

A Discussion On Fair Play

We would like to take a moment to explain what fair play means to us here at WallaBee, as it can sometimes be seen as a subjective term.

General Fairness

Types of Items

  • Set Items
    • All players are given access to all set items.
    • All players are given the same opportunity to get new set items.

  • WallaBee Unique Items
    • Defined as an extra item, outside of normal set items, obtainable through gameplay (cross mixes, mega mixes, store purchase, foraging, pulling from Mixerpool).
    • All players are given access to these items, although some are harder to find than others (Mystery Box & Christmas Mixer).

  • Player Unique Items
    • Defined as an extra item, outside of normal set items, obtainable through other means. They are not always available for all players.
    • Players are periodically given the opportunity to commission an item, which is maintained solely by that player (or a group of players). This includes complete control of distribution as they see fit, as long as it fits within WallaBee terms and conditions.
    • Some Player Uniques are created by WallaBee Staff for special events, moments, or competitions, such as the WallaBacker, Birthday Cake(s), and Wolwocks House Cup.
    • Players do not have a right to publicly harass unique owners for how a unique is distributed.

  • Branded Items
    • Defined as an extra item, outside of normal set items, obtainable through gameplay AND/OR other means.
    • Branded items are created by companies and individuals for the purpose of advertising, fundraising, etc.
    • Select Branded items are obtainable only through donations or the Mixerpool.

Honeycombs

  • All players are given access to gaining in-game currency through foraging at locations and selling items to other players.
  • Everyone is able to play without spending any real money, although purchasing HC is available for those who find it helpful.

Dropped / Locked Items

  • Any item dropped at a location is fair game for another player to pick up. Locks are currently given in game through Mystery Boxes and Christmas Mixers, but we have plans of adding additional ways to earn locks without paying for them.
  • There’s a motto that’s developed within the forums: “Lock it or lose it.” We give everyone the ability to save one of each item into their sets, and carry a default of 30 items with them in their pouch (before upgrades). If collecting items outside of those saved to your set is important to you, please lock them so other players cannot take them.
  • If you would like to read more about dropped / locked items, please tap here.

One Account Per Player

  • This rule is not new, but is being mentioned again as a reminder. Each account should only be playing for themselves.
  • WallaBee is a family-friendly game, and has every intention of staying that way, allowing multiple people within a household to play. We understand that some children may require assistance, such as: logging in on the same device as the parent, keeping their location hidden, etc. HOWEVER, if your child, sister, nephew, uncle, dog, dead relative, or any other person within your household are only playing for your benefit, this is where there is an issue.
  • Using other accounts to hold/gain items, sell items on the market, and/or transfer HC to a main account is breaking the rules. We can track all transactions, locations, drops, pick ups, swaps, and purchases down to the second. Please play within the rules.
  • If you are cheating, and haven’t been banned yet, don’t think that you’re getting away with it. There are many users currently doing this type of behavior that won’t be with us at the end of the week.
  • If you have been using multiple accounts for the reasons above, and don’t want to chance your account being permanently banned, please reach out to me through PM or email. Should you decide to come forward, you will be given a warning and may continue playing on your main account.

Drop Times

WallaBee is a worldwide game, reaching multiple countries, time zones, and cultures. Some new items may be released when you are sleeping. We do not aim for convenient release times, as the word convenient is subjective, and differs person to person (even within the same time zone). Convenience is an impossible goal without giving favoritism, so we will be aiming for a more well-rounded percentage of “Daylight Hour” drops.

ItemBrowser has updated their site to include an Item Drop Analyzer, which shows customizable pie chart graphs ranging from the past week of drops, to the entire history of WallaBee. This is a helpful tool for all players who are concerned about their time zone’s drop times having fewer Daylight Hour drops.

For example, looking at Auckland [+12] from the beginning of WallaBee, we can see that only 34.4% of their drops are during Daylight Hours, where UTC has 65.7%.

The staff is committed to equalizing these statistics to ensure more Daylight Hour drops across the board, and we appreciate your patience as we continue to work on this goal.

Places

As the community shares their hopes and dreams of a brighter future for the app, we take notes. Whether your ideas are used better the game or not, all ideas and heard and considered. With the recent announcement of new subcategories, we want to make sure that your concerns are heard. There was concern about cemeteries not being within couch range of some users. I understand the laziness factor that WallaBee plays to, but it is still a geo-location based game at the core. Getting outdoors for certain activities is actually good for you, believe it or not. If you have a condition that limits mobility, we obviously do not want to leave you out of the fun. Certain accommodations will be made for these players.

The main hurdle that the game faces with locations, is the selfish component. Data shows that many users add spots close to our stashes, so they can maximize the couch-based gameplay. We have seen that many players do not have the motivation to get out, explore their place of living, and add new locations, if it is outside of their homebase circle… at least currently.

We are currently working on implementing a new reward system for adding new places to WallaBee. Need some extra HC or running out of locks? Get out and add new locations!

More information on this topic will be released when the development of this feature is ready to go live. We would appreciate all questions on the topic be saved for the official announcement, as not all the details have been solidified. We wanted to give you a heads up, as there will be a certain level of retroactive compensation to encourage more places being made sooner than later.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to email me directly or email support@wallab.ee

Introducing…

Rob: Yote… Yote… YOTE!!!

Yote: Yes, sir. Mr. Imperial Leader, SIR!

Rob: What are you doing, Yote?

Yote: Foraging, of course, Imperial Leader!

Rob: Good to hear, Yote! We have a surprise for you.

Yote: A surprise?! Am I finally getting the Yote Mixer?!?!?!

Rob: Not quite, but close. We’re putting The Yote in a set, all of its own.

Yote: A whole set?? Tell me more SIR!

Rob: It’s all below in the forum post, Yote. Thank you for all that you do.

Yote: Thank you, Mr. Imperial Leader!! I’m so money!!! YOTE

Ah, Yote and The Imperial Leader… Well, Rob is correct. We have a new set coming out, all based on The Yote!

This is the first official Munzee/WallaBee cross over – with some lovely artwork from Andy! As you all know, The Yote has been a great part of our community, as well as on the Munzee side of things, and his icon is very recognizable. We hope that you enjoy this shoutout to The Yote!

We also want to take this opportunity to help to our friends to the north. If you haven’t heard, Canada is experiencing terrible wildfires right now. For the month of June, proceeds from the new Fire Mystery Munzees, and our online sales for WallaBee, will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross on behalf of the Munzee Resellers to help those affected by these fires.

If you would like to donate as well, please visit www.redcross.ca. The Government of Canada is matching all individual donations, and they could use all the help they can get.

Update:The Government of Canada is no longer matching donations as of June 1st.

Megamixes Are Back!

Happy Tuesday!

As you can see, megamixes are back and they are strong!

I was planning on making a forum post before these last flower items went live, explaining that mega mixes have been tested and are working again. However, before I had even finished adding the new mixes, they all went live. The items were in the 1xy’s before I noticed that they had dropped. The mega mix item, The Very Lovely Special Garden, was figured out before I knew what was going on myself. So, my apologies that a new mega mix went live without a formal post.

Now, all I can say is… prepare for the unexpected. Have a wonderful week!

WallaBee Update 4-20

Hello WallaBee Community!

Today we bring you an update on the WallaBee Staff team and the development of the new app.
We are about 70% done with the new app, and as of last Friday, we were about a day away from releasing a closed Beta test to about 30 people. Unfortunately, two members of the Munzee team left the company on that Friday, which included our main backend developer. With that being said, we hope to find someone else to fill their shoes and get us back on track ASAP. The KickStarter campaign that so many players contributed to has helped us tremendously up until this point, but we are quickly realizing that we need another push to bring on another backend developer to help us through the rest of this new app, and help us get ready for the infamous “V2.”

With this being said, we have batted around many ideas, to which we have finally landed on this:

Mixer Pool of the Century Fundraiser.

As most of you have noticed, the Mixerpool has been in need of a deep cleaning. There has been a lot of junk in there recently, which should have given you more than enough time to hoard mixers for a refill that’s worth your while. We have cleaned out all the junk, leaving a stockpile of over 40,000 items!

What does this Mixerpool look like? Lets take a look…

  • Over 500 SD items, including Short Races #1, Unbranded Puzzle Cube #1, and 25c Coin #8.
  • Over 4,000 DD items, including Camera #83, Blue Egg #39, and Cowboy Boots #85.
  • Over 15,000 TD items, including Blue Egg #228, Red Egg #235, Yellow Egg #168, and Legionary #404.
  • Over 15,000 QD sub 2k items.

Does it seem too good to be true? It’s not! With this amount of low numbered Rarebee items, this will be the Mixerpool of the century, without a doubt. I have personally added some nice cards to the pool, including a few DDs and the April Fools day Egg without Stripes #1.

Now that we have your attention, we wanted to share a special offering with you. Although all of these goodies are still available through normal mixing, we are allowing a rare opportunity to buy three new types of Mixers, being sold in the WallaStore beginning at 7:00pm, UTC. Click here to see what time that is for you.

Shiny Mixers

These special mixers will give you an increased pull from the Mixerpool. There is no cool down for these mixers.

golden-mixer    silver-mixer    bronze-mixer

Golden Mixer2k HC ea – Increases your chances of pulling an item from the Mixerpool to 85%.

Silver Mixer1.5k HC ea – Increases your chances of pulling an item from the Mixerpool to 75%.

Bronze Mixer1k HC ea – Increases your chances of pulling an item from the Mixerpool to 65%.

Each Mixer will start at #2,001. We are starting these items at #2,001 to hopefully give everyone a peace of mind about mixing. No one looks at the number of mixers now, because the number is so high. The point of these mixers is not to create three new RB items, but give a fun way of getting amazing items out of the pool. Also, #1-#2,000 will be released as prizes from the Mixerpool.

The new Mixer types are going to start off as “Player Uniques,” for the sole reason of not having them available in the market. We want you to mix them, and save the lower numbers you pull from the pool.

ADDED INFO: Orange WallaBee Mixers will still act as per normal, with a 50/50 chance and a 1 minute cool-down period.

During the next few hours, you may see a few of these items come into the game for testing purposes. Please do not be alarmed, as all of them will be resurrected again for tomorrow, with all items pulled from the pool returned.

New Set!

One last thing… We have a new set coming very, very soon.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. We hope you enjoy your swim!

Banned Accounts

Banned Accounts

Hello! It’s not every day I bring up this topic, especially on a Sunday where I live… but it must be addressed.

Over the past week, with the occurrence of more users, there have been reasons to look into the legitimacy of accounts. Over this past week, we have permanently suspended 32 accounts for managing multiple profiles. These players ranged from newbees, to high ranked users, to BeeKeepers. No one gets off the hook, just because of your status or investment in the game. If you are caught cheating, and don’t admit it, you’re done. I have personally spent many hours on this, both in-office hours and personal time (sorry, Kelsey!), and do not take these situations lightly. Without mentioning any names, you will notice that some previously active users are no longer active.

Here are some interesting statistics:

  • If an account has been banned, we are 100% confident they were breaking WallaBee rules.
  • The evidence was reviewed by a team of BeeKeepers and Staff. The decision to contact the players involved, which in some cases lead to accounts getting banned, was unanimously agreed upon every time. Again, these situations are not heat-of-the-moment decisions, but well thought out with meticulous detail.
  • We generally give the caught offender the opportunity to explain themselves. If they admit to breaking the rules, their account receives a warning and equivalent punishment based on the offense, but they can continue playing. Although we reserve the right to suspend an account without warning, new management deems it important to offer second chances where appropriate.
  • We have had to request the assistance of translators, to avoid any miscommunications.
  • Please don’t gossip. Premature speculation can lead to misunderstandings and to the defaming of others. We as Staff will notify the community when the timing is appropriate.
  • If you think you are in a situation that may be perceived incorrectly, please do not hesitate to contact support.

There are specifically two players that have been with the game for a long time, who have been caught cheating with multiple accounts. There is overwhelming evidence that these additional accounts were being managed for the benefit of the main account.

With all that being said, this has been a sad weekend for us, and we hope that you will understand what has been lost due to cheating. It is with heavy hearts we bring you this information, and we appreciate your support as we make this game more fair for everyone.
